Getting to the Hotel Elefant – A Comprehensive Guide
The Hotel Elefant, a gem nestled in the heart of the pedestrian zone in Salzburg’s historic Old Town, is located right next to Mozart’s birthplace. This central location makes it an ideal starting point for exploring the city’s sights. Although the Old Town is protected from through traffic by bollards, our guests can easily load and unload their luggage.
Current Traffic Management: City of Salzburg Summer Regulations 2026
From July 1 through August 31, 2026, the City of Salzburg will implement a temporary summer regulation aimed at optimizing traffic in the downtown area. This measure is intended to reduce traffic jams and excessive through traffic and alleviate parking pressures in the Old Town. For our guests, this means that they will continue to have access to the hotel with a valid booking confirmation.
Important Information for Our Guests:
Although there are restrictions in place, access to the hotel is guaranteed for our guests as long as they have a valid booking confirmation with them. This is important to ensure unimpeded entry into the pedestrian zone.

Direct Access to Hotel Elefant: Here's How
If you would like to stop at the Hotel Elefant to unload your luggage, please drive to the center of Salzburg. If you’re arriving via the Staatsbrücke, drive straight ahead at the end of the bridge into the Rathaustorbogen and stop in front of the bollards. The streets in this area are often busy, so we recommend driving carefully and watching out for pedestrians.
If you are coming from Franz-Josef-Kai or Hanusch-Platz, turn sharply right at the traffic light before the Staatsbrücke and stop at the bollards. This route can be very busy depending on the time of day, so be sure to allow plenty of time.
To the left of the bollards, there is a keypad on the wall. Enter the access code there, which you will receive from our hotel shortly. If you don’t have a code yet, you can contact our hotel directly via the intercom—we’ll be happy to help!
Once the bollard has lowered, you can continue driving, take the next left, and then turn right immediately to reach the Hotel Elefant. Here you can park briefly to unload your luggage.
